Why Buy an Electric Car?

2022 Volkswagen ID.4 Charging

As each day goes by, you see more Chicago drivers behind the wheel of an EV. Better known as a BEV, a battery-electric vehicle operates solely off a giant battery cell with no gasoline or internal combustion engine. In the last half-decade, the popularity of these models has exploded. This is thanks in part to industry leaders pushing for the widespread manufacturing of BEV models, which led to the industry-wide adoption of these progressive vehicles. Currently, almost every major brand has at least one of their staple models available in an electric version.

Plenty of obvious benefits exist to owning an EV for any LaGrange driver. However, there are also some additional advantages that many potential owners don’t think about. In this article, we’ll cover why you should buy an electric car.

Why You Should Buy an Electric Car

Most Naperville make their EV purchases based on the environmental factor and the savings on fuel. However, several additional highlights may prove to be just as beneficial, if not more:

  • Cost of Owning an EV: Internal combustion engines have so many working parts and processes that travel between systems, there’s plenty that can go wrong. Believe it or not, the mechanical design of an EV, and the basic concept, are much simpler than those of a standard fuel-burning car. This makes the latter substantially higher in price with more room for components to go bad from simple wear and tear.
  • Cutting-Edge Technology: EVs often come with cutting edge technology in the places you can’t see just as often as in the places you can. Despite the simplistic concept, every each new EV model is an opportunity to leverage the power of new technologies and more efficient vehicles.
  • Secondary Environmental Benefits: We’re all aware of the direct benefits that EVs have for our environment. But secondary benefits like charging stations that utilize only renewable sources of energy are a product of a ripple effect of constant reduction in our carbon footprint as a whole.
  • Maintenance Required for EV Ownership: Your total maintenance costs on your EV throughout the life of the vehicle will be lower than a standard car. Depending on how well you take care of your vehicle, the total amount saved measures into the thousands of dollars.

EVs also make excellent pre-owned vehicles. If you’ve been look contemplating purchasing an EV but don’t want to make the investment on something with zero miles – opt for something in gently used condition and give yourself a chance to test the waters.

Things to Remember Before Signing Off on Your New EV

Prepare Your Garage and Home

Level 1 charging includes the standard cord that comes with most BEV and PHEV models. You plug these into a standard 120V household outlet. While these are efficient for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, they’re not so efficient for full-electric. A PHEV takes about 6-12 hours to charge from 10%. A BEV, on the other hand, can take upwards of 24-hours because of the additional range. This means your best course of action is to install a Level 2 charging station, which requires a dedicated 240V outlet, requiring the work of an electrician. Prepare a spot that’s most convenient to position your new charging unit. This is typically on the interior or exterior garage wall.

Map Charging Stations In Countryside

Find all of the charging stations within a two-hour radius of your house. This gives you plenty of options regardless of which direction you’re traveling, and some in-town locations if you need a quick power-up and don’t have time to wait for your Level 1 or Level 2.

Explore Potential Tax Credits and Incentives

EVs may stay on a continuous downturn because of the mass adoption of these vehicles. Although most of the government incentives are exhausted, keep your eyes open for additional programs that entice consumers to go green.
